The German Commission for UNESCO's Office for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) implements individual program components of the UNESCO program "Education for Sustainable Development: Towards achieving the SDGs" - or "ESD 2030" for short - in Germany together with its partners as part of a funding of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

We are committed to promoting ESD by
- recognizing successful ESD initiatives together with the BMBF with the "National Awards - Education for Sustainable Development" (www.unesco.de/bne-auszeichnungen).

- honouring outstanding ESD actors and initiatives together with the BMBF with the "National Award - Education for Sustainable Development" worth a total of 100,000 Euros (https://www.unesco.de/bne-preis).

- advising the BMBF on the implementation of the UNESCO "ESD 2030" program and support the implementation of central ESD events such as the international launch conference of the UNESCO "ESD 2030" program in Berlin in 2021 and the national launch event.

- having prepared the adoption of the Berlin Declaration on Education for Sustainable Development and promoting its implementation (https://www.unesco.de/BerlinerErklaerung).

- showcasing the strength of the German ESD landscape with more than 1200 registered actors on the ESD actors map (www.unesco.de/bne-akteure) and the online calendar (www.unesco.de/bne-termine) and promoting their networking.
